The sad tragedy behind Lyn May’s face

Lyn May, a Chinese-Mexican showgirl, captivated audiences and leaders alike throughout her illustrious career, starring in nearly one hundred films. Dubbed “The Goddess of Love,” she enchanted viewers with her performances, but her life took an unexpected and tragic turn in the early 1990s when a botched Botox procedure dramatically altered her appearance forever.

Born as Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares in 1952, Lyn May came from humble beginnings in Acapulco, Mexico. Her early life was marked by financial struggles, and in order to help her family, she began selling souvenirs to tourists. As a young woman, she later found work as a waitress, where she met an American sailor who was thirty years her senior. The two fell in love and eventually married. The couple moved to Mexico City and had two daughters together, but their relationship ended in turmoil when Lyn accused her husband of abuse, leading to their divorce.

Following her divorce, Lyn started a career in dancing in her hometown of Acapulco. Her unique talent and style quickly attracted the attention of television producers, and soon she made appearances on the popular TV show *Siempre en Domingo*. Her newfound fame opened doors, and she was invited by Enrique Lombardini to participate in burlesque performances at the Teatro Esperanza Iris. Initially hesitant, Lyn embraced the world of burlesque, and it was this style that catapulted her to fame in the “Ficheras” films of the 1970s and 1980s. Her sensual performances earned her the nickname “Lyn May: The Goddess of Love,” and she became one of the most recognizable figures in Mexican cinema during that era.
