Online influencer sparks viral firestorm, says she’s ‘too pretty’ to work

Following the firestorm of criticism over her “too pretty for work” video, Lucy Welcher quickly removed the original post and uploaded a follow-up video addressing the online attacks. In a sarcastic tone, she “corrected” rumors about her lifestyle, clarifying that she doesn’t own luxury cars, doesn’t make six figures annually, and lives in a house that’s “literally falling apart.”

This response did little to quell the controversy. While some viewers appreciated her sarcastic take, others were still unsure whether her original video was meant to be taken seriously. Days later, on November 14, she posted a remake of the same “too pretty for work” video, repeating the original script. This time, however, many TikTok users rallied behind her, interpreting the video as a joke rather than a genuine expression of entitlement.

The divided response to Welcher’s remake highlights the ambiguity surrounding her message. Was she poking fun at societal expectations, or was her original statement a reflection of her beliefs? This question remains a point of contention, with some users supporting her humor while others find her attitude problematic.
