Greggs staff left in disbelief after man orders ‘biggest ever bacon sarnie’ containing a staggering 7,600 calories

Greggs employees were left stunned after a man walked in and ordered what may just be the biggest bacon sandwich ever seen—packed with an unbelievable 7,600 calories. Competitive eater Craig Harker took on the challenge of consuming 100 rashers of bacon in a single sitting, all stuffed into an enormous bread roll that barely fit inside a pizza box.

Greggs, a popular bakery chain known for its classic steak bakes and a variety of vegan options, serves up some of Britain’s favorite foods. But while most people might indulge in a bacon sandwich or a pastry once in a while, Craig decided to take things to an extreme level.

At 37 years old, the British father is no stranger to food challenges. As a member of the British Eating League, he constantly pushes his limits, and this time, he set out to conquer what could be the UK’s largest bacon sandwich. When he stepped into a Greggs location in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, and requested 100 slices of bacon in one massive sandwich, the employee behind the counter initially thought he was joking.

However, once they realized he was serious, the staff went to work assembling the behemoth meal. When it was finally served, Craig had to pay £60 for his monstrous order. But he wasn’t worried about the price—especially since it came with full bottles of ketchup and brown sauce to help wash it down.

Known online as Dad Loves Food, Craig proudly showed off his towering sandwich, which stood nearly nine inches tall. He humorously dubbed it “Bacon Mount Everest,” telling his followers, “Look at that—it’s absolutely insane. It’s like an entire pig in a box.”

Video footage captured Craig attempting to lift the sandwich, struggling to hold the sheer weight of the bacon-loaded beast. He took it home, as eating something that size inside the store wasn’t exactly practical. Once back in his kitchen, he set up his challenge, ready to take down the mountain of bacon with a bottle of Coca-Cola by his side to help wash it down.

At first, he made decent progress, chomping his way through the salty layers. But as the challenge went on, the sheer volume of bacon started to take its toll. After eating 38 rashers, Craig had to throw in the towel. “As for 100 slices, I think it’s impossible,” he admitted.

He speculated that only elite competitive eaters—maybe someone like Max vs. Food or another British Eating League champion—could pull it off, but he was definitely out of the running. “I think I’ll stick to the smaller ones next time,” he said, laughing.

Rather than let the remaining bacon go to waste, Craig shared the leftovers with his friends and family. He even compared holding the massive sandwich to “holding a newborn baby.” His kids gathered around him, eagerly waiting for their turn to grab a piece of the leftovers.

Craig, who also owns a pub, acknowledged that even his most experienced eaters would struggle with a sandwich of this magnitude. He had previously made headlines by stuffing 51 rashers of bacon into a single sandwich, but this attempt proved to be too much.

Looking back at the challenge, he explained, “As part of the British Eating League, sometimes it’s tough to find new challenges, so I have to create them myself.” He admitted that this was by far the biggest bacon sandwich he had ever attempted and that even the world’s top competitive eaters would have difficulty tackling something this extreme.

For those wondering just how many calories this colossal creation contained, here’s the breakdown:

  • 100 slices of bacon – 7,600 calories
  • One stottie (bread roll) – 172 calories
  • Ketchup – 20 calories

Total Calories: 7,792

After the experience, Craig made one thing clear: “I never want to look at a piece of bacon again.” While his love for food challenges remains strong, this might be one bacon sandwich he won’t be attempting again anytime soon.
